Red Alert As Scrappage Grant Finishes

23 June 2010

In the continued absence of a government subsidised boiler scrappage scheme for Northern Ireland, Phoenix Natural Gas in April put in place its own short-term independent boiler scrappage grant for householders who wish to connect to natural gas for the first time.

The scheme, which is supported by the Energy Saving Trust, matches what is on offer to households in Britain by stumping up £400 cash back for consumers here who wish to upgrade from an old inefficient domestic boiler to a high efficiency A-rated natural gas boiler.

Noel Williams, Head of the Energy Saving Trust NI, said:

“We would certainly commend Phoenix for taking the lead and introducing this short-term scheme at this time. An average home could save up to £210 on energy bills a year and also up to 1.5 tonnes of CO2 annually by replacing an old inefficient boiler with an A-rated condensing boiler with a full set of heating controls”.

Lisburn based gas installer David Mayne said:

“The boiler scrappage scheme has been a great lift for those of us working in the heating industry and has got a lot of people back into work with more jobs coming in. A lot of our customers have been taking advantage of the cash back on offer in order to upgrade their heating, and in doing so have lowered their fuel bills and environmental impact”.

The independent boiler scrappage grant closes at the end of this month and anyone hoping to register for it must do so before 30th June 2010. Phoenix Natural Gas can be contacted on 08454 55 55 55.
