Phoenix Group
In 2007 the Phoenix Natural Gas Group companies comprise of three entities: Phoenix Natural Gas Ltd, Phoenix Supply Ltd and Phoenix Energy Services.
Back in 1996 when Phoenix was first established as a downstream gas business the core objective was to build and operate one of the most modern and environmentally friendly downstream natural gas network systems in Western Europe.
10 years later local, national and international partnerships have delivered an investment of £500 million into the Northern Ireland economy. Phoenix continues to invest in an infrastructure that is currently making the benefits of natural gas available to over 230,000 properties in the Phoenix licence area in Northern Ireland.
The Phoenix network is now considered a benchmark for best practice in such development work, and the lessons learned in Northern Ireland are influencing natural gas development around the world. Our aim through continual innovation, implementation of ground-breaking technologies and dedication of service to our customers, Phoenix Natural Gas will help keep Northern Ireland businesses competitive globally and help in significantly reducing our carbon footprint, given that natural gas produces 25% less carbon dioxide emissions than other fossil fuels.
The development of the natural gas market to maturity over the coming decades, right across Northern Ireland, will deliver significant carbon emission reductions, bringing it in line with Great Britain and many of the leading European countries.
Phoenix Natural Gas Ltd.
Phoenix Transportation and Distribution build, own and operate the gas system being constructed, making sure gas gets from A to B. The aim is to make natural gas available to 90% of Greater Belfast and connect over 60% of properties by 2016.
Phoenix Supply Ltd.
Phoenix Supply Ltd was formed in January 2007 by Phoenix Natural Gas to supply gas to customers. Phoenix Supply is an integral part of the Phoenix group of companies. This is a result of the legal obligation arising from an EU Directive (EC55) which requires Phoenix to separate certain business functions when there are over 100,000 customers using natural gas.
The core responsibility of Phoenix Supply is to supply natural gas to customers, this involves the purchasing of gas, customer service provision, customer billing, customer contact centre and credit control operations. There are over 105,000 domestic and commercial customers in the Phoenix licence area. Phoenix Supply Ltd is committed to providing excellent customer service and developing the natural gas market for the further benefit of our customers into the future.
Phoenix Energy Services Ltd.
Established in 2001 Phoenix Energy Services provide servicing and maintenance activities as well as emergency services. The company has grown from a 2-employee organisation, to a business that has 54 skilled staff completing around 30,000 jobs per year. With a turnover of £2 million and a 30% growth year on year, Phoenix Energy Services is now a significant service provider in the Northern Ireland home heating market.
